Lupron® (leuprolide acetate)

What is Lupron®?
Lupron® is a gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist. It inhibits the pituitary gland's ability to control the ovary and, therefore, is used to treat endometriosis. In women with endometriosis, Lupron® provides pain relief and reduction in the size of endometriosis lesions. The drug is also used as part of the process to stimulate multiple eggs for assisted reproductive technologies.
How Do I Use Lupron®?
Here are step-by-step instructions for taking Lupron® (leuprolide acetate) injections:

| Lupron® is injected subcutaneously—or into the fatty tissue under your skin. The primary sites for injection are your abdomen—2 inches on either side of the navel—and your upper, outer-thigh where the skin is loose. Wash your hands thoroughly and make sure that the surface you work on is clean. |

Use an alcohol swab to cleanse the rubber stopper of the vial.
|
|
|
Pull the plunger of the syringe back to the appropriate marking.
|
|
|
Pull off the cap of the needle, and pierce the rubber stopper of the Lupron® vial.
|
|
|
Push the plunger all the way in. Keeping the needle inside the bottle, turn the vial upside down. With the needle in the liquid, pull back the plunger, until the syringe fills to the proper mark.

|
Remove the needle from the vial, and prepare to administer the injection.
With the needle pointing toward the ceiling, flick the side of the syringe to disperse any air bubbles and the air pocket at the top of the syringe, then gently push the plunger until one or two drops of liquid are expressed to make sure you have eliminated any air.

Gently push on plunger until air pocket is gone and expel a drop of liquid.

¿Qué es Lupron®?
Lupron® es un agonista de la hormona liberadora de gonadotropina. Inhibe la capacidad de la hipófisis para controlar el ovario y, por lo tanto, se utiliza para tratar la endometriosis. En mujeres con endometriosis, Lupron® suministra alivio del dolor y la reducción del tamaño de las lesiones por endometriosis. El medicamento también se utiliza como parte del proceso para estimular múltiples óvulos para las tecnologías reproductivas asistidas.
¿Cómo utilizo Lupron®?

| Lupron® se inyecta de manera subcutánea o en el tejido graso debajo de la piel. Los lugares principales para la inyección son el abdomen (2 pulgadas a cualquier lado del ombligo) y el muslo superior y externo, donde la piel está floja. Lávese bien las manos y asegúrese de que la superficie sobre la que trabaja esté limpia. |

Utilice un hisopo con alcohol para limpiar el tapón de goma del vial.
|
|
|
Tire del émbolo de la jeringa hacia atrás hasta la marca correcta.
|
|
|
Quite el capuchón de la aguja y perfore el tapón de goma del vial de Lupron®.
|
|
|
Presione el émbolo hacia adentro por completo. Sin sacar la aguja del frasco, coloque el vial al revés. Una vez que la aguja está en contacto con el líquido, tire del émbolo hasta que la jeringa se llene hasta la marca correcta.

Tire la aguja del vial y prepárese para administrar la inyección.
Con la aguja apuntando hacia el techo, golpee suavemente el costado de la jeringa para disipar cualquier burbuja de aire y la bolsa de aire de la parte superior de la jeringa. Luego, suavemente, presione el émbolo hasta que se expulsen una o dos gotas de líquido, para asegurarse de haber eliminado cualquier resto de aire.

Presione el émbolo suavemente hasta que se elimine la bolsa de aire y salga una gota de líquido.
